The Vast Minority: Are you a Card Carrying Member?

By Adam Roufberg

I am endlessly baffled by the polls regarding President Bush and US support for the “War on Terrorism”. Somehow, even while US soldiers are being killed on a more or less daily basis, all of the polls seem to indicate that the majority of Planet America’s Citizens support the Bush Wars. Magically, they indicate that the majority of Americans even believe that Saddam Hussein was responsible for 911, that Saddam had ties with Al Qaeda, and that Weapons of Mass Destruction have been found in Iraq- even though these brash media manipulations are repudiated by intelligence from the “United Axis of Good”- the US, UK and UN.

911 gave the Bush Administration Carte Blanche to attack any country which it deems a potential threat to the US. In fact, the US National Security Strategy (NSS) calls for preemptive wars engaging it’s adversaries without any provocation. The NSS was adopted from Rebuilding America's Defenses (RAD) - a document crafted by the Neo-Conservative right wing think tank “The Project for the New American Century” (PNAC) that was published in September 2000 (RAD was adopted from Dick Cheney’s 1992 National Defense Strategy). All of the ‘potential wars’ against the Axis of Evil are addressed in this document and others by the PNAC. It is a recipe book for American hegemony.

I have read many documents stating that the War on Afghanistan was planned as early as March 2001 and would take place no later than October 2001, that the US received several to many warnings of the attacks of 911, and that Wolfowitz had been seeking regime change in Iraq for a decade. Even though much of this stuff reaches main stream media, it apparently gets little attention and surely does not get committed to a person’s long term memory- according to polls.

All the same, the vast majority of people I know- friends, family, students, teachers, journalists, attorneys, historians, environmentalists, parents, children, humanitarians, religious leaders, and more- were all opposed to the Bush Administration's policy of preemptive illegal invasions of sovereign nations.

In the meantime, the US has established an awesome military presence in the Middle East. Afghanistan, situated in the heart of five nuclear nations, is a critical strategic point for US military actions.  Iran is essentially surrounded by a US military presence at its borders. And the US has control of vast oil and natural gas reserves which most of the Asian continent relies on for economic, and therefore cultural, survival. I rarely hear any of this mentioned in the news.

Perhaps the most disturbing thing about the Bush Wars is the fact that GW has walked the path of God with Billie Graham and has become born again. This in and of itself may not be too scary, but put that together with Bush’s  quote from the bible when he landed on the USS Abe Lincoln (from Isaiah 61 when Jesus proclaims he is the messiah), and follow it up with a reading of The Book of Revelations, and you may lose a night or two of sleep.

After complete exhaustion takes over you will require a couple of days of refreshing slumber, at which time you will come to realize that while there is much to fear- for example: the destruction of your civil liberties via the Patriot Act and the Homeland Security Act (and other insults to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights which are on the way), Bush’s total disregard for the lives of innocent civilians across the globe (including US troops!), and a total disregard for the environment-  you can find solace in the fact that you have joined the likes of Senator Robert Byrd, Noam Chomsky, Helen Caldicott, Howard Zinn, Arundati Roy, Dennis Kucinich, Howard Dean, Ralph Nader, and billions of people on earth (as represented by the 30 million who protested before Operation Iraqi Liquidation) who compromise the ‘vast minority’ of humanists seeking to establish peace on earth in the true spirit of democracy, not the fraudulent neocon democracy imposed by the PNAC (a.k.a. the Bush Administration)

The Four Reasons to Impeach Bush

Excerpts from the last chapter of Mein Kampf: "The Right of Emergency Defense" (reprinted without permission from the author). Hitler is talking about the French German relationship (circa 1922).

"Persistently, on every conceivable occasion, they (the French) had to shatter the structure of the Reich. By the imposition of ONE DISARMAMENT NOTE AFTER ANOTHER, on the one hand, AND BY THE ECONOMIC EXTORTION thus made possible, on the other hand, Paris hoped slowly to disjoint the Reich structure. The more rapidly national honor withered away in Germany, the sooner could economic pressure and unending poverty lead to destructive political effects. Such a policy of political repression and economic plunder, carried on for ten or twenty years, must gradually ruin even the best state structure and under certain circumstances dissolve it. And thereby the French war aim would finally be achieved.

"By the winter of 1922-23 this must long since have been recognized as the French intent. Only two possibilities remained: We might hope gradually to blunt the French will against the tenacity of the German nation, or at long last do what would have been done in the end anyway, to pull the helm of the Reich ship about on some particularly crass occasion, and ram the enemy.”
